LED floor lamps

With LED light bulbs and LED elements, very often featured in a modern floor lamp, you gain several benefits (as listed above). But due to their small size, LED lights have allowed floor lamps to explore new designs. It is not possible to arrange the individual LED's into strips or rows or circles or following almost any contour, which has allowed for modern new takes on a floor lamp.

You can for example find LED arc lamps which are very thin, where the LED's are arranged along the length of the arc, no longer requiring a large light bulb or a shade to shield the bulb. A modern led floor lamp can take on new forms and shapes and leans particularly well toward a more modern themed room.

Types of Modern Floor Lamps

Modern floor lamps come in a few major varieties, for different purposes. These include:

• LED up-down light floor lamps
• LED torchiere lamps
• LED reading lamps

A traditional floor lamp would feature a tall pole with a light on top and a lamp shade. This would direct light upwards and downwards out of the ends of the shade, and less so from the sides. This may be emulated in a modern floor lamp with either a shade to direct the light, or with a lamp design which aims the LED lights upwards and downwards. This can provide ambient lighting and also a focused local area of light below, which is good near to a desk or seating area.

An modern LED torchiere lamp, however, aims most of its light upwards, reflecting and diffusing the light off the ceiling or wall. This produces a more ambient light and background illumination. These are good for lighting up a larger portion of the room with general light. In a larger room you might consider a pair of LED torchieres, positioned at either end or opposite corners.

An modern LED reading lamp is more designed to focus all of its light downwards. The reading lamp is placed behind or to the side of you while sitting in a chair, and can aim its light down or forwards. This is ideal for highlighting a book or for some other seated activity such as crafts. A reading lamp will also likely feature a 'full spectrum' style light color, which helps to reduce glare and clarity the contrast of words on a page.

Positioning a modern lamp

Most tall standing lamps will output relatively bright light. They are designed to light up an area. Although a reading lamp is more designed to focus light in a local area below the lamp. A modern standing lamp is best located either behind or to the side of a seating area or desk where the light can be best used.

You can also locate the floor lamp in a corner or side of a room, which will light up most of the room. But in a larger room you might want a contemporary floor lamp at either end of the room or, for example, at either side of a bed or sofa. As a living room lamp, a modern floor lamp can work well to brighten up a room especially in the evenings.

A floor lamp is also a portable lamp and can be easily unplugged and moved. You can reposition it wherever you would find it most useful. This means you can also move them between rooms, or when you rearrange your furniture.
