In honor of it being Movember (and having the holiday season bearing down on us), I thought it would be fun to put together a list of gift items for the men in your life while subsequently bringing light to a great cause (and great mustaches). For more on Movember, check out the Movember Foundation website.
Black Friday starts before Halloween and Christmas trees hit the shelves in September, which means by now you’ve been inundated with countless promos and countless gift giving options. This can lead to what I call “paralysis of choice.” I feel well equipped to help with this sort of ailment, being that I spend well over 40 hours a week getting to know our 30,000 plus items.
To tackle this in the most pragmatic way possible, I have broken it down into archetypal categories based on guys like me or guys that I know.
A first rate hunter deserves a first rate lamp. Here I present the ever-popular high-quality lamp by Ashley Furniture that hones in on the yearning for the wilderness that claws at the heart of every sportsman.

This novelty light is right in my wheelhouse as a hockey player, but you don’t have to be a hockey player to appreciate the unique and cool (pun intended) nature of this fixture. You’re sure to score a hat trick with this gift idea.
As someone who loves to toil, I find this light a must have. I use one at the office, at home, and in my workshop. This lamp is perfect for anyone who likes to get their hands dirty, or just likes to see fine details.
As I type this, my Bright Reader LED Floor Lamp is illuminating my workspace. The portability and functional nature of this lamp makes it a versatile must-have for any reader. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the crisp pages of a good book.

I've been an avid for stander for months now. By finding the right balance of standing vs sitting, I have seen an increase of steps on my Fitbit and a decrease in tightness around my waist band.

This is a low cost, high value item. You can turn any lamp into a rustic accent well suited for a cabin retreat or rustic rec room. No one will growl at this one...

This twofer is an easy choice for me. I dabble in photography and love adventuring in our alluring national parks. Did you know that this year marked the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service?

Know a globe trekker? These are an affordable, yet fun way to gift to a traveler. As a designer and travel enthusiast, I find this passport stamp pattern especially appealing.

This presents a good opportunity to present a classic that’s proven to be popular for generations of self-proclaimed funny men.

Technically, this category could suit all of the above, but this also presents a low-cost opportunity to give a man with a man cave something cool. These corks may have been developed for wine bottles, but they also fit in beer, whiskey, or any other novelty bottle you can think of. What a great up-cycling opportunity to make a unique gift all your own!
Thank you for reading. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, I will gladly respond.
Why do the Movember thing, isn’t it passe at this point?
Sure, it’s not a new thing, but it still matters to me. Cancer seems to be a reality we all face at some point in our lives, and in recent years it has wreaked havoc on my family. When the chance comes up to help raise awareness about something I care deeply about, I eagerly jump on board no matter the perceived notion of the trend.
