What is an Outdoor Ceiling Light?

If you have ample headroom above an entry-way, a hanging outdoor pendant light can work well. The outdoor ceiling light hangs down from a higher roof so that the lantern is closer to people. For which rooms?

For outdoor use, outdoor pendant lights should be mounted underneath the overhang of a porch or covered deck, if you have enough headroom. They can be hung next to outdoor seating if there's room.

Placement/Layering

A ceiling-mounted outdoor pendant fixture will shine its light downward and outward over the local area. At night this light may well spread out over a fairly large area, centered on the porch. But it may not reach to the further reaches of a yard without additional lights. You may want to pair it with some wall/garage lights.
