How to Discover Your Lighting Style

Determining your favorite Lighting Style can be challenging. At LampsUSA, we don't believe in pigeon-holing people into a limiting, narrow definition of style. Today's eclectic influences mean most of us draw from several styles when decorating our home. You can even switch up your lamp shades for even more design possibilities. While you might not immediately know the difference between Baroque and Neoclassical Mediterranean, most of us know instantly what we like. So to make shopping easier for you, we have tried to group our styles by look, rather than sticking blindly to a more historically accurate categorization of light styles.

At the other extreme, we don't want to limit you to the 3 styles you will see at most lighting stores. Lets face it, Traditional, Contemporary and Transitional don't demonstrate the variety of design styles and they really don't help you narrow your selection. So rather than force you to look at hundreds of pages of lights hoping the right look will jump off the page, we have created the following Lighting Style groups:

Art Glass Lighting

Unusual and highly stylized glass. The look of Art glass will dominate the design of the item.

Casual Style Lighting

Today's laid back lifestyles are informal and comfortable. More updated and less stuffy than traditional. Not an ounce of pretention. Many formerly “transitional” items will be grouped here.

Contemporary Lighting

Today's contemporary is EDGY and demands your attention. Includes modern styles with clean, smooth lines, but with an attitude.

Shop Contemporary Lighting

Crystal Style Lighting

Crystal is not really a style in the purist sense, but grouping all crystal lights in the same style, makes it easier for you to shop. Crystal must be the main design feature, not just one or two crystal accents.

Shop Crystal Lighting

European Style Lighting

We took a bit of artistic license with our Euro classification. Does it look like it could be hanging in a castle or in a French parlor? Then it might just be European. Lots of scrolls, fluer-de-lis, crystals/beads. Not just the "minimum amount of flair".

Shop European Style Lighting

Iron Style Lighting

Bold and strong. Iron items are dominated by heavy metal design. Features Rivets, chain links, ribbon metal strips and wrought iron. Sure, most lighting in all categories is metal, but iron style is only for those items where the metal dominates the design of the light.

Shop Iron Lighting

Industrial Lighting

Industrial Lighting is functional and utilitarian. Including “commercial” looking fixtures. Almost an "anti-style", industrial values function over form.

Shop Industrial Lighting

Kids / Novelty Lighting

Lighting designed for children or the whimsical child in all of us.

Shop Kids / Novelty Lighting

Mission Prairie Style Lighting

Really a combination of the similar Mission, Arts & Crafts, and Prairie styles. Characterized by angular geometry. Lots of rectangles, triangles, low pitched roofs.

Shop Mission Prairie Lighting

Restoration Style Lighting

Authentic reproductions of yesteryear products. Think gas-light, milk glass, school house. Usually turn of the century America. Not colonial. Older styles are often found in European.

Rustic Lodge

Perfect for a north woods cabin or to bring nature indoors. Nature inspired: twigs, antlers. Similar to cabin & Lodge styles.

Tiffany Style Lighting

One word says it all. Tiffany glass, inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany, it adds a great splash of color and class to any room. You will know it when you see it.

Shop Tiffany Lighting

Tropical Lighting

Breezing in from the pacific or carribean, tropical influenced lighting recreates the tropical isles. If Jimmy Buffet choose it for his Key West home, its probably in the tropical Style.

Shop Tropical Lighting

Traditional Style Lighting

Classic styles that have sold for years. Tried and true styling that just plain works.

Shop Traditional Lighting

Style is a powerful, unspoken influence of your mood. When you enter a room, you know instantly whether you are comfortable, in awe, or in quiet disgust. Your innate response will help you identify the style that is right for you. Nobody can tell you the "correct" lighting style. This is one area you need to listen to your heart. So we try to help you quickly identify what style is best for you. By reading our style guides, you will speed up your lighting search. Click on the link that speak to you. Which ones are calling your name?
