Complementary Colors for Sherwin-William’s Color of 2018

 Sherwin-Williams announced 2018's color of the year: Sea-Blue Oceanside. 

This deep sea blue hue is meant to evoke wanderlust and inspire adventure through an opulent and mysterious shade. 

Today, people have a growing sense of adventure. We love it so much that we are bringing it inside our own homes.

This color is versatile enough to work with both traditional and modern styles. This warm shade of blue has both dramatic and yet soothing qualities to create a feeling of walking by the ocean. 

Now is an excellent opportunity to get ahead of the game by looking for great complementary colors.

Here are complementary colors that will accentuate the room. 

Ivory

Ivory can be defined as a neutral color because it can fit with almost any shade.  Ivory is also known as a relaxing color to have in your house. It carries some of the same pureness, softness and cleanliness of white but slightly richer and with a warmer touch.

Adding an ivory colored piece to a sea-blue colored room creates a nautical vibe.  Both the look and feeling of having these colors together gives the sense of relaxing by the beach.  The Ivory would look best on furniture and cushions that would enable better relaxation.

Dark Brown

Of all colors, Brown is the most neutral. Dark brown, a natural color that can be seen on wood, gives the sense of familiarity.  Familiarity is an excellent vibe to give off in a room to welcome guests.

Unlike the previously mentioned colors, dark green is a cooler color.  These colors are naturally calming and give the room a much more open appearance.  Dark green symbolizes the color of pine tree leaves and are very natural.

Mixing dark green and Sea-Blue Oceanside gives a natural appearance of sea water.  This would look especially natural in the interior design by painting a portion of the room with dark green as an accent to the Sea-Blue Oceanside painted walls.  

Yellow

Yellow is the color of energy and optimism.  This bright color symbolizes sunshine and daisies, each sending positive feelings to the mind.  Yellow is always good to have in a room to brighten up the mood. 

Balancing tones is very important to a room.  Each of the previous colors were either neutral or cool.  Having too much of one tone can bring an imbalance to the room, which can make a room too open or closed. 

It is very important to have just enough yellow to give energy to the room.  Using a few yellow pieces would be just enough to do this.  Having too much could give an exhausting feeling to anyone in the room.  

Having yellow is very important to giving energy for people to go on adventures.  Yellow and Sea-Blue Oceanside are perfect because they represent a gorgeous day by the ocean. This feeling can also be experienced in the household.
