Desk lamps are portable tabletop lamps which can sit on a desk or table. They usually direct their light downwards so that they can be used for tasks such as reading, crafts or paperwork. The light from a desk lamp usually shines off to one side, rather than directly over the lamp base, so that it can optimally light up your desk area. Desk lamps are also often adjustable to place the light where you need it. Being portable they can simply be plugged into a wall socket. Great for work activities or for crafts and hobbies.
A reading lamp typically sits next to or behind a chair. It features an arm or lamp head which arcs over the side or back of the chair, focusing its light downwards. This allows you to read comfortably with bright light when seated. Positioning the light behind or to the side also reduces glare. Reading lamps tend to be shorter than regular floor lamps because they're designed to be used for reading when sitting down. Most reading lamps are also adjustable and they produce a comfortable natural light. They've also great for crafts, hobbies and artistic projects.
Informal and comfortable, this relaxed style accentuates an airy and unpretentious living space, evoking the feeling of a permanent beach cottage vacation. Casual Lighting uses clean and simple lines, subtle curves, natural textures, and decorative glass for a subtle elegance that doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
Task lighting places a stronger light in one area of the room. Very good for tasks when you're sitting nearby. Most lamps can be used as task lights and can be quickly switched on when needed. Great for reading, crafts and hobbies. They also work well to light up one area of a room, e.g. on either side of a couch or in the corners of a room. Most of the light is directed downwards and out to the sides.
A desk lamp is best used with a desk or table, or next to a bed or seating area. Ideally in an office or work area, in living rooms, bedrooms, family rooms and guest rooms.
A desk lamp is best suited for desk, writing and office areas, on side-tables and accent furniture. They're likely to live closer to the edges of the room providing local light. You should add other light fixtures or lamps as well to create appropriate levels of light in the room.
Portable, sits on a surface via the lamp base. Covers a relatively small area, can be placed on desks, tables, shelves and other furniture.
Plug the desk lamp into a regular power outlet socket and switch it on.
Phone communication with Debbie (?) was professional and informative, convincing me to make a purchase of 2 goose neck lamps. Timely cross-country delivery of a product that lives up to the claims. It all show a committed American quality company... just carry more AMERICAN-made products.
This lamp is exactly what I wanted: a simple, cheap, flexible table lamp that takes a standard bulb. Lamps like this that take a standard bulb type are strangely hard to find these days. Construction is reasonably sturdy at this price point. I put a compact fluorescent bulb in mine and then hid the lamp behind my LCD TV in my bedroom and pointed it up at the ceiling (flexible neck comes in handy here). This gives a nice halo of light around the top of my TV that lights the room with a nice, soft light (with no reflections on the TV).
