At once graceful, carefree and elegant, these Belmira chandeliers capture the spirit of the Vanderbilt's French Chateau revival mansion designed in 1890 by Richard Morris Hunt. Unique to the fixtures are the glass shades which contribute to the impression of movement and work in subtle counterpoint to the continuous rhythm and excitement of this magnificent piece of sculpture. The applied foliage decoration, in the form of inverted acanthus leaves, have been purposely given a golden finish, which was originally applied to prevent tarnishing, but will always be valued for its decorative enrichment.
