Dorm decorating tips in How-To's & Tips

Posted on May 22, 2014 by LampsUSA Experts | 0 comments

No matter where you are in your college career, your dorm or apartment is going to be your home away from home for most of the year. You want to make sure that the space is comfortable, and that it reflects your personality. Check out these helpful tips for decorating your space:

1. Rearrange your furniture
Find creative ways to rearrange your furniture. Instead of the overcrowded monotony that identifies most dorms, loft your bed and create a new living space underneath it. Putting in a comfortable chair or futon will not only establish your room as a cool place to chill out with all your friends, but will also make your room look more like a habitable living space.

2. Define your style
Adding accent pillows to your bed and futon is an easy and inexpensive way to establish a color and style theme throughout your room. Find colors and designs that complement your bedspread or wall décor to make the maximum impact on your room.

3. Class up your walls
Your room is already cramped enough, so instead of cluttering up the walls with a million posters, focus on a few framed pieces. You will set yourself apart from the rest of your friends with an original piece of artwork. In HCv2, we stock a wide selection of unique, trendy pieces that will quickly designate your room as a style center.
Removable wall decals like Wall Pops! can also provide a quick and stylish solution to the overbearing white walls of your room. They come in many different sizes and designs, making it easy to find one that fits your style

4. Stylize your shelves
With all the textbooks and papers that you will accumulate, your bookshelves will quickly fill up. Find ways to stylize the shelves by breaking up the books with interesting pieces like picture frames or other collectibles.

5. Expand with mirrors
Look to expand the cramped space in your room by hanging up mirrors on the walls. Mirrors are essential in every space because they can double as both practical pieces as well as design tools.

6. Add colorful accents
Bring the room to life with some silk flowers. Put some on your desk or nightstand to make a big impact on the room in a very subtle but effective way. It is small accents like this that really make your room feel like home.
