Tropical style was inspired in the areas of the Caribbean to the South Pacific. The British Colonial style is based on a combination of exotic materials, Indian and Caribbean influences and traditional forms.. This style originated in the 19th century when the British Empire had posts in many parts of the world, including the tropics. British Colonial style and Caribbean style appear more formal compared to the relaxed style of the South Pacific or Bali, and yet are less formal than the Traditional style.
