Lighting Fixture News

When light hits an objectwhen a light wave hits an object, what happens to it depends on the energy of the light wave, the natural frequency at which electrons vibrate in the material and the strength with which the atoms in the material hold on to their electrons. In a modern light bulb, inert gases, typically argon, greatly reduce this loss of tungsten. If air is left in incandescent bulbs, the filament burns; if the bulb is evacuated, as was formerly done, the tungsten filament tends to evaporate, blackening the inside of the bulb.

Lighting Fixture Facts All these processes work on the same basic principle: an outside source of energy excites atoms, causing them to release particles of light called photons. The idea of the light wave came from christian huygens, who proposed in the late 1600s that light acted like a wave instead of a stream of particles. Argon is also used in electric-arc technology, in gas lasers, and in arc welding. Absorptionin absorption, the frequency of the incoming light wave is at or near the vibration frequency of the electrons in the material.
